While seniors usually thrive using medical alert systems, there are obstacles that can get in the way of them using them properly. One of these obstacle is false alarms. Seniors can sometimes get discourage or scared after accidentally pressing their medical alert systems button. While a false alarm is usually no big deal (all they have to do is tell the operator that it was an accident or its not an emergency), this can create a mental block that discourages a senior from using their medical alert. Fall detection is a pretty exciting new technology that some companies offer. The one flaw with fall detection medical alert systems is that they lead to a lot of false alarms. The machine will occasionally detect a fall during non-emergency situations. A senior may be laying down or just bending over. I would hate for your loved one to stop using their medical alert because they are wary of false alarms. While I am excited about the potential of these fall detection devices, I recommend going for a more straightforward system until the technology improves…
